The annual highlight of The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club's racing calendar is the Qatar International Equestrian Sword Festival, taking place from the 24th to the 26th of February. First held in March 2001, the Festival has grown in stature with international horses, trainers and jockeys from Qatar, Dubai and Oman competing.

January saw the release of the LONGINES World's Best Racehorse (WBRR) and 2014 will be remembered as the year when the World's Best Racehorse was trained in Japan for the first time. Japan secured the top two rankings in the world courtesy of the wide winning margin of Dubai Duty Free (G1) winner Just A Way (JPN) with a ranking of 140 and the outstanding Japan Cup in association with Longines (G1) winner Epiphaneia (JPN) ranked 129.
