The Asian Racing Federation (ARF) announced today that Dr. Sally Gainsbury, Director of the Gambling Treatment and Research Clinic and Associate Professor of the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney, and Dr. Catherine Ordway, Assistant Professor in Sports Management at the University of Canberra, have agreed to join the Asian Racing Federation Council on Anti-Illegal Betting & Related Financial Crime.

We have renamed the task force a “council” to better reflect the permanence of the group and our efforts to build our capacity as a think tank aimed at combatting illegal betting and related financial crime. We aim to achieve impact in this area through the strong expertise of the members of the council, which is reflected in the excellent thought leadership produced by the group.

The Asian Racing Federation’s Anti-Illegal Betting Taskforce (‘the Taskforce’) announced today that it has strengthened its capability to protect global racing integrity with the addition to the Taskforce of former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, Graham Ashton, and the Project Manager of INTERPOL’s Match-Fixing Task Force, Claudio Marinelli.

Asian Racing Federation jurisdictions with racing shut down by the Covid-19 pandemic are returning to normal with South African racing resuming last week and New Zealand announcing that its racing will resume earlier than originally planned.
The National Horse Racing Authority (NHA) of South Africa on Thursday, May 28th, 2020, announced that the South African Government has permitted racing in South Africa will resume on June 1st, 2020, behind closed doors. Racing had been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a national wide lockdown.
