Winx, trained by Chris Waller and ridden by current fourth highest ranked LONGINES World’s Best Jockey Hugh Bowman, won the Australian weight-for-age championship race by a record eight lengths over a field that was respected and included three last start Group 1 winners.

She became just the tenth horse since the Cox Plate was first run in 1922 to win the race back to back and she joined the champion Sunline (NZ) as the only mares to have achieved the task in 94 years.

Winx took her winning sequence to 13 equalling Limerick and remains one win away from the iconic Phar Lap who posted 14 consecutive wins in the 1930’s.

Her winning margin eclipsed the previous winning margin of seven lengths set by Sunline in 2000 and Dulcify in 1979.

Winx was supreme in her majestic win after daring the field to take her on and then just when a much talked about joust with Hartnell (GB) and James McDonald momentarily seemed about to start the mare strode away.

"It is like a dream, as simple as that," said Waller.

"She is just a superior racehorse and it is an honour to be a part of it," said Bowman.

Winx, a five-year-old by Street Cry out of the Al Akbar mare Vegas Showgirl, has now won stakes of A$9,298,498 for her 17 wins and three second places from 23 starts.

Just A Way earned a rating of 130 for the January 1st, 2014, to November 8th, 2014 period which was equal to the Australian sprinter Black Caviar (AUS) and Treve (FR) for the same ranking period in 2013.

After the Cox Plate Racing Victoria Executive General Manager – Racing, Greg Carpenter, commented: “Winx, without a doubt, has run past her high mark of 127.”

California Chrome (USA) at 133 currently leads the LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings from January 1st, 2016 until October 8th, 2016, over A Shin Hikari (JPN) and Arrogate (USA) on 129 and Almanzor (FR) and Winx on 127.

The latest LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings are due to be released on November 10th, 2016.
