Asian Racing Federation expresses our sadness following the passing of Dr Patricia (Trish)Ellis AM. We extend our sympathy and condolences to Trish’s husband, Gary, and family.
Trish was an outstanding, legendary veterinary scientist who made a remarkable contribution in Australia and internationally. Following her career in private veterinary practice, Trish developed a world-renowned expertise in quarantine, emergency disease management and biosecurity which she applied with enormous impact around the world.
Trish was highly intelligent, passionate, dedicated, practical and extraordinarily effective at addressing major equine diseases and biosecurity challenges. In doing so, she improved the health and wellbeing of horses (and other livestock), and promoted international trade. She also had a devoted passion for horseracing, both thoroughbred and standardbred, and a keen interest in other equestrian pursuits.
Among her many global roles advising governments and regulators, Trish was the ARF’s trusted advisor on the international movement of horses for over a decade. She was also a valued member of the International Federation of Horseracing Authority’s International Movement of Horses Committee where she constantly shared her knowledge, experience, wisdom and humour.
Trish was a remarkable colleague and dear friend to many in the Asian and international racing community, and she will be so deeply missed.
