The Asian Racing Federation is pleased to announce that the latest issues in Anti-illegal Betting and Money Laundering will be explored in a full session at the 37th ARC.
We are also delighted to announce Associate Professor Stacey Steele will deliver a key address which will consider major developments in the regulation of money laundering in Australia and beyond. Her strong Asian legal, financial and regulatory background will ensure a fascinating insight into an important issue which is faced by racing regulators, wagering organisations and major financial institutions.
Associate Professor Stacey Steele has over 15 years experience as an Australian lawyer. Stacey spent more than 7 years in private practice at a leading Australian commercial law firm where she practiced corporate and project finance law, acting for leading financial institutions and blue chip corporations. In 2007, Stacey went in-house as an Associate General Counsel. She continues to work across the Asia-Pacific specialising in financial services and transactional law.
At the Melbourne Law School, Stacey is an Associate Director of the Asian Law Centre, teaching banking and finance law, insolvency law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and researching complex financial issues such as the Opes Prime dispute, Japanese netting law and international derivative disputes, and comparative insolvency law.
Stacey has published widely in academic journals and books as well as providing commentary to professional newsletters and practitioner publications such as the Insolvency Law chapter in CCH’s Japanese Business Law Guide. She co-edited Match-Fixing in Sport: Comparative Studies from Australia, Japan, Korea and Beyond (with Hayden Opie, Routledge, 2017), Internationalising Japan: Discourse and Practice (with Jeremy Breaden and Carolyn Stevens, Routledge, 2014), and Legal Education in Asia: Globalization, Change and Contexts (with Kathryn Taylor, Routledge, 2010).
Stacey speaks Japanese and holds Bachelor (Hons) and Masters (Thesis) degrees in Laws from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland and Masters of Arts from Monash University.
