The day before the Opening Ceremony is the traditional Conference race day at the Mahalakshmi Race Course of the Royal Western India Turf Club. The eight race programme includes the Grade 1 The Villoo Poonawalla Indian Oaks for four-year-olds and the Asian Racing Conference Trophy for three-year-olds.
The following day the Opening Ceremony follows the Bureau meetings of the Asian Pattern Committee, International Stewards’ Conference and Asian Racing Federation Management Committee meetings earlier on Monday, January 25th.
The Conference continues from Tuesday 26th January through to Thursday 28th January, followed by the Stud Visit to Poonawalla Stud Farms on Friday 29th January.
Sessions on the Conference days include The Wagering Landscape, Breeding, Racing Media and the 21st Century Fan, How We Market Racing, Racecourse Management, Handicapping and Race Programming, International Horse Movements, Drug Free Racing and The Rising Tide of Illegal Gambling.
Vital industry topics to be discussed on the first Conference Day, Tuesday 26th January, in The Wagering Landscape are ‘External forces and industry strategies’ and ‘Racing’s revenue model in a global wagering market’.
The Illegal Gambling session on the final Conference Day, Thursday 28th January, explores ‘The scale of the problem’ and ‘Explaining the rise and scale of Asian betting’.
