Secretary General, Asian Racing Federation
Executive Director, Racing, The Hong Kong Jockey Club
In recent years, the mind has become an increasing focus of attention within sport. From maximising performance to promoting mental wellbeing, athletes and administrators have placed greater focus on the mind and its central role in all facets of sport. While we have witnessed a deeper understanding and awareness of the pressure professional sport places on the mental health of its participants, and a wider public discourse which encourages openness in addressing mental health issues and supporting those facing challenges, there is still much work to be done.
Focusing on athletes, including racing’s participants, this session will examine mental health as a key issue of our time and in sport. It will explore innovative approaches to supporting athletes to perform to the best of their ability, as well as equipping them with fundamental skills to ensure their mental wellbeing in their professional and personal lives.
This session – featuring a keynote address by the Hon. Jeff Kennett AC, Former Premier of Victoria, Past President of Hawthorn Football Club and Founder of Beyond Blue – promises to open delegates’ minds, with a diverse array of speakers coming at this critical issue from very different angles.
